A Living Wall

Est. July, 2025

This cozy front yard - home to a mature Freeman Maple, had sunken paths, a barren garden, and exposed Maple roots (1.5' above the sidewalk).
🌳 With the health of the tree as our top priority, we set out on a unique challenge to beautify this yard without endangering the health of the tree. For us, this meant: no removing existing roots to lower the grade or build retaining walls. We set out to find another way - and our solution: A LIVING WALL.

What our clients wanted:

Hide the exposed Maple roots

Even out the paths

A low maintenance garden

What we did:

Created a semi-treadable living wall - a non-invasive, beautiful way to hide the exposed Maple roots.

Installed a new Hemlock wood retaining wall to create a step up that matches the grade of the yard.

Recreate an even brick path to the home

Created a permeable flagstone path - great for rainwater management

Garden installation filled with layers of native pollinator plants

With the black pebble accents on the flagstone path and the living sedum wall, we're really happy with how this project turned out!

"I'm amazed! Everything looks great! I'm super satisfied. I'll recommend you to everyone I know!"
